Packers vs Broncos Week 8 NFL Betting Preview

The quarterback matchup of Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers vs Peyton Manning should be quite intriguing as well and this game could be an early Super Bowl preview. The Packers took down the San Diego Chargers 27-20 their last time out even though Rodgers struggled slightly by going 16 for 29 in his passing attempts for a 55 per cent completion rate, which was his season low. He tossed a couple of touchdown passes though and finished the contest with 255 yards in the air. The Packers’ pass defense also had a hard time as it gave up a season-high 503 yards and a pair of touchdowns to San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers.

Rodgers is the reigning league MVP though and he’s arguably the best at his position in the league. His passer rating of 115.9 is second best in the NFL and his touchdown-to-interception ratio stands at 15:2. The Denver defense has been tough as nails all year long, but it hasn’t been in top form the past couple of games and this gives Rodgers and the Packers a bit more hope. Even though the Chargers torched Green Bay for more than 500 yards, The Packers still have a high-ranking defense and the pass rush has recorded 23 sacks so far this campaign, which is second in the league.

Look for Green Bay to apply all sorts of pressure against Manning, especially since he hasn’t received the greatest protection from his offensive line up to now. Green Bay has eight interceptions on the year and will be facing a quarterback in Manning who has given up a league-high 10 this season. There’s no doubt that Manning hasn’t been at his best in 2015, but the five-time MVP has still led his team to an unbeaten record heading into Sunday’s showdown.

Manning’s pass-completion rate is just only 61.6 per cent this year and he’s on pace for a career-low 19 touchdown passes. To make matters worse, he’s also on pace to be picked off 27 times this year, which would be just one under his career-worst mark of 28 which came in his rookie year. The Broncos, who beat Cleveland 26-23 in overtime two weeks ago, are basically unbeaten so far due to their excellent defense which is ranked the tops in the league. The squad leads the league in sacks with 26 and has the second-most interceptions at nine and the third-most defensive touchdowns with three.

The Broncos know Rodgers doesn’t play as well outside the confines of Lambeau Field and will try to take advantage of that fact. Denver will hope pass rushers DeMarcus Ware and Von Miller are at their best and are also hoping a week off will benefit Manning. If the quarterback isn’t at his best though, Denver will need a good running game. Against Cleveland, C.J. Anderson and Ronnie Hillman teamed up for 33 carries and 152 yards. Denver is 9-7 against the spread at home in their past 16 contests and are 15-1 straight up. It looks like they’ll go into this game as underdogs though, but their defense should be good enough to pull out a win.
