The Seattle Seahawks currently own the NFC wildcard position, but will need to beat the Cleveland Browns this Sunday, December 20 if they hope to hang onto it. The two reams will face off at CenturyLink Field in Seattle with the Seahawks sitting in second place in the NFC West Division with a record of 8-5. They dropped the Baltimore Ravens 35-6 on Sunday for their fourth straight victory. Meanwhile, the Browns sit in the cellar of the AFC North at 3-10. They’re coming off of a 24-10 triumph over the San Francisco 49ers last weekend for their first win in their past eight contests.

The Browns seven-game losing skid finally came to an end on Sunday as quarterback Johnny Manziel led the way. Manziel threw for 270 yards and added a touchdown pass as he completed 21 of his 31 pass attempts. It was Cleveland’s first win since October 11. Isaiah Crowell also had a fine game as he carried the ball 20 times for 145 yards and scored two touchdowns. The Browns ran for 230 yards on the day which was their best ground attack since 2009 when they racked up 351 rushing yards against Kansas City. Their previous rushing high this year was 116 yards.

The Browns will need to be good on both sides of the ball if they hope to take down Seattle though. They performed well against the 49ers by sacking quarterback Blaine Gabbert on nine occasions and holding San Francisco to a total of 221 yards. Cleveland’s in for a tough task against the Seahawks since Seattle has scored an average of 35.3 points per game during their current four-game winning string. Cleveland enters the showdown with a 2-4 record against the spread on the road this year and is 1-5 straight up in those encounters.

The Seahawks are hot at the moment and hope to remain that way for the rest of the season. Quarterback Russell Wilson went 23 for 32 in passing against the Ravens for a career-best five touchdowns and 292 yards. Wilson has now tossed 16 touchdown passes in his past four outings. Wilson’s favorite targets were Tyler Lockett and Doug Baldwin. Lockett caught a pair of touchdown passes while Baldwin was the recipient of three of them.

Seattle racked up a total of 424 yards in the game and will be taking on a Browns side which concedes 27.5 points against per game, which ranks second-worst in the league. Seattle has a few injury worries though as head coach Pete Carroll will be without running back Thomas Rawls due to a broken ankle against Baltimore. Rawls was having a fine season as the undrafted rookie had four touchdowns and 830 yards at the time of his injury and averaged 5.6 yards for each carry. He also reached the 100-yard mark four times this year after replacing Marshawn Lynch, who’s also on the shelf with an injury. Seattle has gone 3-3 against the spread at home this year and is 4-2 straight up. They should be able to extend their current streak to five games on Sunday.
